I'll be the first to admit this...I'm not a "consistent" blogger. I never have been. I blog when I either feel like it or in most cases, remember I even have a blog. Today, I have finally sat down and decided to write out some thoughts that have been running through my head the past few weeks. Words of Caution: If you don't mind randomness then please feel free to read on.
What makes one happy? This single statement has been on my mind a lot lately. This question has come to light as I watch everyday people, to the people in my life make choices that they believe will make them happy. Happiness is a something we all desire, so what are our motives to achieving it? What are we willing to do or give up to have it? What defines our individual happiness? Ask yourself, what makes you happy? For many people it is their family, friends, hobbies, recognition...maybe it is watching their favorite show on TV or reading an interesting book. But then my next thought is, is this everlasting happiness or "just now" happiness?
It was as I have pondered this question, that I decided I needed to ask myself what makes ME happy. My laundry list of things began simple; naps, baths, family, friends, curly fries...but as I listed, my mind began to think on a deeper level; learning makes my happy, serving others makes me happy, living my sacred covenants, and having a loving relationship with my Heavenly Father and older brother Jesus Christ. It was then that I realized my own personal differences between "just now" happiness to eternal happiness. It was at that moment that I was willing to do whatever in my power to achieve that state of true happiness, even if that meant giving up some of my "just now" happiness. Let me explain, anyone who really knows me knows I LOVE naps. Naps make me happy, but when I leave to serve my LDS mission in Columbus, Ohio I will not be able to take naps as frequently as I am accustomed to. It is through this sacrifice that I will find true eternal happiness of serving others and becoming closer to my Savior.
I guess what I am trying to say; what are you willing to give up to find true everlasting happiness? What "just now" happiness are you willing to put aside to have forever happiness?
As I stated above I will be serving an LDS mission, I leave July 10th to the MTC for a couple weeks and then head out to the Ohio Columbus mission. Words can not adequately express my feelings right now. I have wanted to serve a mission since I was 10 years old, I know with all of my heart that this church is true and that it brings everlasting, eternal happiness. I know that Ohio is where I am supposed to be...never thought that it would be, but each night as I do more and more research on it the more excited I am to serve there and the more I know that this is where the Lord needs me. The feelings that came over me as I opened the call are too special and sacred to me to share quite so openly, but I do know that the Lord is mindful of each of us, knows us personally and loves us unconditionally. I am grateful for this opportunity to serve Him and help others find happiness.
